I have to say, the most fun I have when writing is when I get to research a topic and I find so much more out about it than I would have thought possible. This is the case with ghosts. There is so much information about them, from some pretty credible sources. Like an article I dug up and put aside, then decided to read today. It’s titled Why Some People See Ghosts and Other Presences by Frank T. McAndrew Ph.D. at Psychology Today.
This is not to say that Dr. McAndrew believes in ghosts as a corporal being with a mind of their own. Not by any means does he believe that. But he does believe that the people who see ghosts are experiencing something, depending on their current circumstances – called a ‘sensed presence’.
“The sensed presence usually happens to individuals who have become isolated in an extreme or unusual environment, often when high levels of stress are involved. These individuals report a perception or feeling that another person is there to help them cope with a hazardous situation. “
But he also writes, ” Although sensed presences are most frequently reported by people in weird or dangerous places, it is not unreasonable to assume that such experiences can happen in more mundane surroundings. “
I found the examples he uses to be interesting as well. You can read them and the rest of his article here: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/out-the-ooze/201507/why-some-people-see-ghosts-and-other-presences
I believe there are many reasons people see ghosts, this is one of them.
